Do you all know what RSS stands for?RSS is Really Simple Syndication,a format used to deliver information from websites and pages that get updated regularly.RSS documents are call feeds and it contain either full or summarize content from a website. This feed can be read through readers which is now provided widely like Google Reader.
When you subscribe to an RSS feeds from any blogs or sites that you like, you will receive a feed almost immediately after a new posting have been made at that particular blog or website without you having to visit it to check if there is any new posts!Isn't it great? For example,if you like the posting on my blog, and you want to read my latest post, you don't have to visit my blog everyday, instead, just subscribe to my blog, choose your reader,and..Walla!Every time I make a new post, you will receive it through your reader..as simple as that. :-)
This RSS Awareness Day is an initiative by Daily Blogging Tips to spread the use of RSS.According to Pew Internet Project,in 2005,5% of the Internet users said they use RSS,and Feedburner recently reported that they track around 60 million RSS subscribers and if that number is pushed to 70 million taking into account people using other RSS application or platform,it only convert to 5.4% of the Internet users around the world to this day. This statistic shows that many Internet users is still not aware of the RSS formats and its benefits.(Source from RSSday.org)
Actually they ask to participate by writing about RSS on May 1st,but I find it is better if I inform you all before the actual day,so you can participate too on that day and maybe win prizes..you can visit here to get the full information on how to participate, and what the prizes are. ;-)
What is Feedburner?
Feedburner is a company that provides RSS subscribing service..and no,this is not a promo to get commission, because to register is free, and the service is free too. There are others who provide this service, but the most used as I know is Feedburner, and it is a company that has been acquired by Google.Feedburner also provide other great services to its user and I strongly recommend it if you want your readers to subscribe to your blog.Do give it a look here.
Do help spread the awareness of the benefit using RSS.You can also put the RSS Awareness badges or banners on your blog by visiting here, you can choose any which badges or banner you want.Let us all spread this message and make more people aware of RSS benefits.
One thing though,RSS is most suitable for blogs because blogs are mostly updated daily,or much more frequent than websites, but there are websites that offer RSS subscription because the content in it is regularly updated.Offer RSS subscription for your blogs if you blog regularly, and educate your readers on its benefits. All successful bloggers offer this service to their readers, and you'll be surprise by the numbers of their readers..Daily Blogging Tips have almost 12,000 subscribers,Problogger have nearly 46,000!
To me the number of visitor doesn't show anything, but the number of readers to a blog speaks for the blog itself.
