Why I Subscribe To RSS Feeds?

No Comment - Post a comment

I hope you all like my posting yesterday about RSS Awareness Day.I know, some of you might think that it is just a way to promote a blog..in some way I do agree, but its up to you how to promote your blog. Some do contest, with prizes, some do polls.Daniel at Daily Blogging Tips initiate RSS Awareness day,to create awareness on the benefits of RSS and I support his cause because most of us still doesn't subscribe to RSS feeds,or didn't make it available to our readers although it brings great benefits.Maybe he will gain a few extra new readers doing this, but that is because of his brilliant idea to create it.

The first real blog that I've read is Problogger by Darren Rowse, and I found it while searching on how to make money blogging. From his blog I learn about RSS and I immediately subscribe to it because of all the information available from his blog about blogging. So,instead of looking for ways to create an income by blogging,I turn myself into a blogger who wanted to have a great blog,a blog which can be helpful to other bloggers or readers,a blog which in some way can bring value or meaning to other bloggers or readers.I enjoy reading Problogger because there are times where certain people guest blog on it,and I personally like stuff written by Gala Darling and Skellie.

What Is The Benefit Of RSS?

To me there are two ways it can be beneficial :-

  • Your reader can easily read your latest posting without having to visit your blog every now and then. That means people who really enjoy your writing, can subscribe to it,so they can enjoy it everyday,or every two days depending on how often you post to your blog. They will always look forward to your latest post because it will be sent to them, like receiving e mails.
  • You can subscribe to blogs or websites that you enjoy the content without the hassle of going through each and everyone of it.It makes your life so much easier and you can spend the time looking up every blogs or websites doing other things like building your traffic, increasing your page rank, looking for new blogs or looking for stuff to write on your latest post.
My Personal Opinion.

As I've already told you,I subscribe to Problogger, and of course Daily Blogging Tips, that's how I know about RSS Awareness Day,and Remarkablogger..all this blogs is for my latest info on blogging and there are lots of it.Problogger is more on building a good content, making your blog better,Daily Blogging Tips is my resource because it has list of Blog Directories and other resources that is vital to blogging, especially for me since I am in the proses of building my blog and Remarkablogger, well, since he is a Blog Consultant, tips on how to maximize your blog.

I read their posting to get an idea for my own stuff.Don't copy the whole of other people content! There are certain people who do this,it is wrong and not ethical. If you want to take some part of it,mention where it is originally from.I do take some pointers from all these blog, but I present it in my own way, with my own perspective.

I do subscribe to another blog,Mashable..it is more about things happening on the Net,and it is good because it keeps you updated on the latest news.

I like to subscribe to more blogs,if I find it interesting and worth reading, and most importantly,it adds value and provide valuable info, not only about blogging, but other things that I'm interested in.To me by subscribing to these other blogs,it gave me a lot of resources to work on my own blog, and it is a great thing.

RSS Awareness Day - 1st May 2008

No Comment - Post a comment

Do you all know what RSS stands for?RSS is Really Simple Syndication,a format used to deliver information from websites and pages that get updated regularly.RSS documents are call feeds and it contain either full or summarize content from a website. This feed can be read through readers which is now provided widely like Google Reader.

When you subscribe to an RSS feeds from any blogs or sites that you like, you will receive a feed almost immediately after a new posting have been made at that particular blog or website without you having to visit it to check if there is any new posts!Isn't it great? For example,if you like the posting on my blog, and you want to read my latest post, you don't have to visit my blog everyday, instead, just subscribe to my blog, choose your reader,and..Walla!Every time I make a new post, you will receive it through your reader..as simple as that. :-)

This RSS Awareness Day is an initiative by Daily Blogging Tips to spread the use of RSS.According to Pew Internet Project,in 2005,5% of the Internet users said they use RSS,and Feedburner recently reported that they track around 60 million RSS subscribers and if that number is pushed to 70 million taking into account people using other RSS application or platform,it only convert to 5.4% of the Internet users around the world to this day. This statistic shows that many Internet users is still not aware of the RSS formats and its benefits.(Source from RSSday.org)

Actually they ask to participate by writing about RSS on May 1st,but I find it is better if I inform you all before the actual day,so you can participate too on that day and maybe win prizes..you can visit here to get the full information on how to participate, and what the prizes are. ;-)

What is Feedburner?

Feedburner is a company that provides RSS subscribing service..and no,this is not a promo to get commission, because to register is free, and the service is free too. There are others who provide this service, but the most used as I know is Feedburner, and it is a company that has been acquired by Google.Feedburner also provide other great services to its user and I strongly recommend it if you want your readers to subscribe to your blog.Do give it a look here.

Do help spread the awareness of the benefit using RSS.You can also put the RSS Awareness badges or banners on your blog by visiting here, you can choose any which badges or banner you want.Let us all spread this message and make more people aware of RSS benefits.

One thing though,RSS is most suitable for blogs because blogs are mostly updated daily,or much more frequent than websites, but there are websites that offer RSS subscription because the content in it is regularly updated.Offer RSS subscription for your blogs if you blog regularly, and educate your readers on its benefits. All successful bloggers offer this service to their readers, and you'll be surprise by the numbers of their readers..Daily Blogging Tips have almost 12,000 subscribers,Problogger have nearly 46,000!

To me the number of visitor doesn't show anything, but the number of readers to a blog speaks for the blog itself.

Making Money With Your Blog.

No Comment - Post a comment

OK..before you jump to any conclusion,I think you better read the rest of this post to really understand what it is about. :-)

"In 2006 advertisers spent US$16.9 billion online compare to just US$6 billion in 2002(Internet Advertising Bureau)"

"In a 2006 survey made by Pew Internet and American Life Project,39% of Internet users,or about 57 million American adults said they read blogs,up from 27% or 32 million in 2004."

An interesting statistic if you want to make money using your blog.

But don't get too excited..there are 80,000 new blogs on the Internet daily and there are about 20 million blogs currently online.Big competition!

I do agree that you can make money using your blog. But not by setting up a blog and put advertisement all over it,or just putting in as many links to making money sites on it making it a "link farm" and just keep it like that for sometimes.

Blogs are suppose to be your personal thoughts about something, that you wrote everyday into it,or on any time you feel like it.It is an online diary,a journal. But now people just use it to gain monetary rewards because..

  • Its FREE.
  • It is easy to setup and to use.
  • You can setup as many as you want because its FREE.
There Are People Earning Money From Their Blogs!

I agree, there are people who actually earn money from their blog, but you have to ask yourself how did they do it.Is it just by setting up their blog and they start to earn money? From what I read, most of them achieve it because..

  • They have been doing it for at least 2 years.
  • They manage to get 2,000 to 50,000 readers daily.
  • They manage to attract advertisers and sponsors to their blogs.
What Can We Learn Here?

You have to be patient and you have to work hard.If you don't have patience, you can't even last for 6 month so you have to set a goal that you will be blogging in long term if you want to make money with your blog.

You have to post regularly and provide post with good, fresh, quality content..something original, not only in the content but also your style. If you can maintain this, and keep on blogging, with the right promotion of your blog, you can have 2,000 to 50,000 readers daily.

When you have a substantial amount of readers, and you have been blogging regularly, consistently, you can approach advertisers to advertise on your blog, and instead of getting paid per click, you can set a monthly fees for a spot on your blog.If in 2 years time you become an A-list blogger, advertisers will want to share your popularity,by advertising or sponsoring your blog.By doing this you can easily earn $5,000 to $30,000 a month as all those top blogger are earning now.

So would you rather earn money now,but don't last that long,or work hard now,and earn your rewards later, rewards that flows regularly and can be increase as you please? That is if you want to make money with your blog :-)

I'm not an expert, most of my writing are about my views and to help me motivate myself, and at the same time sharing my view with others and hopefully it can motivate others too.

Keeping Motivated To Blog.

2 comments - Post a comment

Hello everybody..hope you all have a nice weekend.I did..I just love weekends because I can see the one I love..No!not just my girlfriend..but also my Mom,my nieces and nephews. They all are so meaningful to me and they bring love and happiness into my life.

Spending time away from your daily blogging schedule sure can freshen you up and keep you motivated to carry on blogging. If you have made up your mind to really to start blogging, and really blogging that is blogging regularly, you have to keep this in mind.Blogging can sometime be stressful if you push yourself to hard, that is why some do it as a hobby, but to someone like me,it is not a hobby, and not a profession, but something that I want to do,something that I like to do.It is not stressful, but sometimes you do face days that you just don't have any idea what you wanted to blog about, because we are only human, and there are many things that can have an effect on our daily life, and our blogging ability.

How To Stay Motivated.

That is why I like weekends.I can spend time away from blogging and make me fresh to start blogging again.Taking your time away can sure be good to your blogging life, because like working 9 to 5 or any other job,we must take time away to make us fresh.Take our mind away from things that are routine. If we keep on going without stopping,we will be burnout, because we are not machine or robots. Our mind have a limitation, and need a rest so it can function as well as it possibly can. That is why we need a good night sleep,to rest our mind, and start fresh when we woke up.Resting on weekends can relax your body after sitting in front of your PC or Laptops for hours everyday,so you will be fresh.

Other Ideas?

OK..sometimes we do feel like not blogging. If I were to face this situation,I just simply rest, and not push myself to blog, thinking on what to post, because I know,if I do these,I can't produce anything,or even if I manage to,I don't think it will be worth publishing.

If I just feel a little lazy,or have an idea what to post but don't have the drive to write it,I just leave the house,go down and have a coffee at the cafe near by,or maybe I take a bus and go to the nearest mall, spend sometime there.

If I'm in no mood to go anywhere,I just take a short nap,or play the games I like(I just love to play football games on my PC!).

You can also cook,do household chores like sweeping the floor, doing the laundry or ironing your shirt.Just anything that can take your mind off blogging or take you away from your PC or laptops for a while.

Does It Works?

It certainly do for me,and from what I read in other posting, and in forums, most of them agree, taking times off can do wonders to freshen you up and keeping you motivated.

I made a simple Things To Do routine that I like to follow everyday :-

  • Read my mail and reader.
  • View my blogs to see if there is any comments to moderate and reply.
  • View sites and review in Link referral.
  • Join forums.
  • View other blogs(This is new and I try to view 10 to 30 blogs everyday)
  • Posting to my blog.
I can get an idea what to post in my blog by reading what is in my reader and by joining forums. That is why I do it everyday, and it also help to motivate me because I always have things to look forward to.

How do you keep yourself motivated?

The Greatest Blog!

No Comment - Post a comment

What makes a blog great?

  • Because 50,000 people visit it everyday?
  • Because 25,000 people subscribe to it?
  • Because it has podcast?
  • Because it has great picture?
  • Because the writer claims he generate $30,000 from it every month?
  • Because other blogger says its great?
We look at other blogs and say how great it is and how we wish we can have a blog like it.If we just wish,I don't think it will happen!I don't think the fairies from blogging heaven will grant your wish because there is none.

Why do we find that blog great? What makes our blog less great?Lets just take my blog for example..The great blog have 50,000 visitors daily..mine only have about 20 I think..but the great blog started 5 years ago, mine 5 days ago..its not a fair comparison I think.

Some people starts their blog after finding success doing business online..so when they start to blog, they already have followers..their customers. Some people like you and me,we started from scratch..so to get twenty visitors daily is such a blessing! How sad it is to start a blog with no visitor at all..so I thank God for the 20 visitors and thank the visitors for visiting my blog.

Most of these great bloggers will give tips on how to be a successful blogger, just like them..and I thank them and people will read and follow their tips because they are successful..a lot of people wants to be successful like them, who doesn't?

But what I find from all this tips are..Just blog as they way you like it!

  • If they say podcast is the trend now..find out if it is suitable for your blog.I don't like podcast,I prefer reading and I'm sure there are people like this other than me.
  • If they say put picture on your blog..is it suitable on your blog?I don't because it is hard to find picture that suits my post, and if there is one,I rather write my post than looking for it.
  • If they say find top keywords and add it to your title and content..you have to do research on top keywords for your niche, and try to blend it into your content to get good rank in search engine.I don't because if your rank is good,it is easier for people to find your blog, but if your blog doesn't have good content, they won't stay and be your reader..so it doesn't make sense to me.
  • If they say do this and that to generate traffic..I just do what I think is necessary, and not rush anything..because like the above reason, there is no point getting traffic to your blog but you have nothing good to give them.I want people who visit my site to come again and be my reader, not just to have a look at it.
  • If they say your blog must not be too long, just keep it short and sweet..I sometimes don't because sometimes I have a lot I want to share.
  • If they say don't use free platforms to blog, instead subscribe to web hosting and have your own domain because it will look professional,I don't because to me professionalism is in your content.."Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover" if you don't mind me adding "Don't Judge A Blog By Its Platform" and I don't have the funds yet to have my own website and domain!
No one can decide what is best for your blog..you are the best judge. This great blogger are called expert because they have been doing it longer than us,that is why people look up to them.It doesn't makes them better than you and me.Just look at Google..they enter the market after MSN and Yahoo! But look at them now.How can that be?This is an open market,no one can say you can only make it big after 1 year or 2 years, how would they know?It is all up to you..and the readers.

Just blog as the way you like it,someday you will make it big,not by luck, but because of the effort you put in.Yes,some people just have the luck, within 2 months they make it big..but how many did?If you really love blogging, you put your heart and mind to it,loving every minute of it,soon you will succeed.People will find your blog, talk about your blog and the next thing you know, you are the expert on blogging, people will look up to you.

Don't put to much worry on the figure..concentrate on your blog, your content..then it will be..The Greatest Blog!

An Easy Way To Get Traffic.

No Comment - Post a comment

I assume some of you might be skeptical when reading the title.

Well,I don't blame you.You have tried all the methods known to generate traffic to your blog, but sadly,it is easier said than done..and it does takes time. Some days you get 100 over traffic to your blog, but suddenly the next day you only got 30!And I'm not taking into consideration friends and family members who visit your blog out of giving you support.People who doesn't know you personally but came to visit your blog, read your content and maybe even leave a comment.

Blog Directory

Yes..this can work to generate traffic, but will people find your blog within the thousands of blogs in the directory? They might and they might not.Other options?

Search Engine

Google,Yahoo! and MSN..I can get my blog into their search directory, and people will certainly find my blog..wrong!Not necessarily..you have to find the right keywords to get a good ranking in the search engine. What keywords? You have to find the right keywords, and to find it you have to do some research. When you do,blend it into your title and your content so when the search engine crawl your blog, find the keywords, push your blog higher up in the search rank.I'm confused!OK..just leave that alone.

Social Media Sites

Stumbleupon,Digg..you can always ping your latest post there,so does millions of other blogs!Chances to be noticed..I don't know, and can never tell.

Forums

Never tried it?Well..you should.Why?Here's why :-

  • Find forums about what you blog or any general forums, join in,participate and in no time you will make new friends, who will visit your blog, who will become your reader.
  • How can they find your blog?Forums let you leave your blog URL as your signature,so each time you post in a thread(topics),you will leave your signature.
  • You get to show off your blog, get your blog review..A good promotion for your blog.
  • Start a thread or give a good reply to any thread you find interesting where you can give your view or advice. The idea is for people to notice you and there is no better way than to be actively involve and giving value to the forums.
  • Connect with other forum members, visit their blog, leave a comment and soon you will be adding other bloggers link on your own blog.
  • If you stay long enough in it,become an active member, you can become a moderator. This will certainly boost your self and your blog.
Easy isn't it?You only need to spend maybe 30-40 minutes of your time or the most is one hour everyday. It won't bring thousands of visitor overnight, but it certainly an easy way to promote your blog.

What Makes You Start Blogging?

2 comments - Post a comment

I would really love it if anyone reading this can share his/her experience on what are the things that led them to start a blog.I'm sure there certainly are different reasons for each and anyone of us,and I'm also sure there must be some similarities. But one thing for sure is how blogs change the scenario of the Internet, without it Internet is such a dull place, with information and news that lack a human touch to it.But blogs added the human side to it,making it like we are interacting with real people and we sure are.Blogs are more passionate, and sometimes intimate too.It created such a wonderful feeling isn't it?

What Makes Me Start?

I actually learn about blogs just during the end of last year,I really lost track of whats happening on the net for the past 4 years because of things happening in my life. When I knew about it,I try to learn more, and found out that blog is such an interesting avenue where you can write just about anything, and its free too!Later on I found out that you can make money as well from it,how convenient I said to myself..you can write what you want, and earn cash doing it!So I continue my search and found out about Internet Marketing, making money online..just great!Just what I've been looking for.Without any hesitation,I started a blog in January..made my first posting, and then the second..after finishing the third post, going into the fourth, when I suddenly realize..its not easy!My biggest mistake..I didn't do proper homework, proper planning.I stopped everything, even delete that blog..do my research..and start again early this month, with my first blog.Yes..I admit..I started because of the MONEY reason.:-(

Do You Still Think You Can Earn With Your Blog?

I sincerely do think so..there are people who earn from their blog/blogs..people like John Chow,Darren Rowse,Yaro Starak and I think there are many others..BUT WAIT!DON"T BLOG FOR MONEY!!..those people doesn't start a blog for the monetary rewards, instead they get their monetary rewards because of their blog, and they have been doing it for the past 4 to 5 years. They got people sponsoring their blogs, advertisers lining up to advertise on their blogs and companies wanting them to make reviews about their product..and they achieve this because they have a large number of readers that they built from the day they started their blogs. That's why traffic is important..to some these are potential buyers,if you are into Internet Marketing or making money..but to some, for people like me..these are readers, readers who wants to read what you write, who will tell other readers if what you write is good, and the one who will help to build your blog! This is the reason why I blog now,and I'm loving it every bit! :-)

So What Actually Are You Saying?

This is my opinion..I think there are 3 types of people who started a blog :-

  1. A person who just want to write and share.
  2. A person who wants to write and share and making some money doing it.
  3. A person who just wants to make money.
A blog is all about content, and content are the things that you wrote on your blog..If you just want to make money, what will you write about? Will you resort to "importing articles to your blog?".That is why I wrote in my first post, write from your heart..if you wrote what you felt about something, without nothing whatsoever about money in your head while doing it,you can produce a good and quality content.I'm not saying that my post is good, but when I started in January,I have to crack my head thinking what to post, what keywords to use, because of the MONEY mindset..but now..I can write with ease, even though I never had any experience in writing, and English is not even my first language!I don't even have to write points on a piece of paper as guide, and I can finish a post in about 20 - 40 minutes.

Anything Else?

Just a few things before I leave, sharing what I think is best :-

  • Choose topics that you know and of your interest, not the interest of search engine.
  • Write about things that you love..if you love someone or something, you can't find enough words to tell about it..right?
  • Be honest..if you don't,sooner rather than later your readers will know.
  • Give something that your readers want..maybe you are writing about things that have been written, but your readers will surely want to know your view, maybe it is different, and I'm sure it is different if you write it in your own unique style.
  • Value your readers..it is your blog, but they are the one who decide whether you are a success or a failure.
What's your story?

Good Comments,Bad Comments.

3 comments - Post a comment

I received a bad comment on my other blog yesterday..luckily I moderate all my comments so I can view it first and decide whether to publish it or not.Don't get me wrong, this doesn't mean I only publish all the good comments and delete comments that critic my blog.I publish comments that I deem worth publishing, whether its a compliment or critic because critic can be good to building a better blog and providing better and quality posting..but the one that I received yesterday was just pure vulgar..it has nothing to do about my posting..it has an intro about not believing me blogging not for the money..and then the rest is just crap and vulgar..so the best way to handle it is to just delete it.

Don't Get Into Fights!

Sometimes it does get to your nerve isn't it?They don't appreciate your posting, and they dare to say bad things about YOU..not about your post.So you reply to the comment, and the next thing you know, you started name calling each other!Don't waste your time, simply ignore it and delete the comment. This people simply do it not because of you or your post but because they are like that, they get a kick out of doing it!They are only venting their frustration or anger not at you but at themselves.

How About Good Comments Or Critic?

Always response to comments that you received be it a compliment or critic, because this is what your readers thought about your post, not about YOU!Your blog wouldn't mean a thing if you are the only one reading it,and a good post is not about you,but giving what your readers want.If they give compliment, thank them and promised you will try to maintain giving good posting to things related to your topic and giving value to your readers(And you must live up to this promise!).If you received critic, maybe it is for the good of your blog, and try to make changes either to your blog or the way you write your post or to both.Don't ignore your readers.

Do You Leave Comments On Other Blogs?

If I find a good blog and the posting is good, and I love reading it..Yes!I will definitely leave a comment, thanking the writer for a good read, and maybe giving my views on the topic,or add anything that I believe have been left out.Don't leave comments just for the sake of doing it..like.. great blog..nice posting..really like it.If you leave comments on other blogs, the owner of the blog will maybe reply to your comment, check out your blog, and if your blog is good, then he/she might recommend it to his/her readers.Comments are good for creating links with other blogger and it can also build traffic to your blog.

So go on..leave a comment.;-)

Write From Your Heart

No Comment - Post a comment

"hey nice posts, wish I could write long posts like that...English is my second language too."

"You got a knack for Blogging. Excellent content and see you put some time and thought into each post. Your hard work will pay off."

Don't get me wrong,I'm not showing off on my first posting..actually those are comments I get from my posting in my other blog, click here to check it out..and what this posting is all about. As you can see,my blog is about my view,my interpretation of the things related to blogging which I came across in the blogosphere but written and presented in my own way.

I've read a posting by Abhijeet Mukherjee from Jeet Blog on Problogger yesterday,20Th April ‘Do you write from the heart?’

In it he ask 5 question whether it bothers you when you are writing your blog :-

  1. Will readers like my post?
  2. Has someone already written about it?
  3. What keywords should I use?
  4. Am I writing in good English?
  5. Will I become a successful blogger?
You can read his answer here. Here is what I think about it,and the answer from my point of view.

  1. If you wrote from your heart, about things that is close to you, things that you love to do and give your best thought to it,gave you a feeling of satisfaction after you've finish writing it..yes..I do think people will read it and like it.Don't think to much about how well will it be accepted,or how to impress..you will only put unnecessary pressure on yourself to deliver.Just write it the way you want to,not how well you want it to be seen by your reader.
  2. In my case..yes!I'm writing on the same topic that has been written by Abhijeet, the difference is,he is a seasoned blogger, while me..a relatively newbie! He wrote it by giving his opinion, and I'm writing by giving mine. Why I wrote this?Because to me the content of a blog is important..if you have your own view about something, write about it.Don't be intimidated because the original posting was made by a seasoned blogger or an A-list blogger..they are humans to..they have their view,so do we.Maybe there is something that you want to add that is not in the original posting, there is nothing wrong in adding something that you thought might be useful. This is what makes blogging wonderful..don't you agree?
  3. Keywords..such an important thing!People do research to find the top keywords, try writing keywords rich content..but what about the readers?Don't they deserve something? If you wrote from the heart, your posting will be about things that the readers can relate to,things that will give them information and satisfaction and a feeling that you are a human being with feeling and passion, just like them. This will bring them closer to you.Readers come first, keywords second.
  4. You are not writing English Literature!Just write what you want to write about, but do check for spelling mistakes. What's important is your readers can understand it,and get the point.
  5. Be truthful..be honest..if you write from your heart, you are being honest..write good, quality content and slowly you will have loyal readers, followers rather than people just visiting your blog.
I'm still new..my other blog is not even 1 month old..but it is more on my views about Internet Marketing and making money online..no..no..its not about affiliate marketing or PTC,PPC ads..just my view on it..I'm not trying to be different, its just that I believe in doing things differently.I love blogging..and being a blogger!

Money can buy happiness but things you can buy won't last a lifetime.
